The petitioner, Sandeep Kumar Singla, proprietor of Shri Shri Balaji Agro Industry, sought regular bail before the Punjab and Haryana High Court after being arrested on 2 December 2025 in connection with an FIR alleging embezzlement of 35,421.75 quintals of government paddy supplied by the Food Department for milling. The petitioner argued that the dispute was essentially contractual/business in nature, that the challan had already been filed after investigation, and that trial would take considerable time. The State opposed bail citing the serious nature of the allegations and the petitioner's involvement in three other FIRs. The Court, relying on Supreme Court precedents on personal liberty and the purpose of bail, noted that the petitioner had already been in custody for over seven months, no prosecution witnesses had been examined, and nothing tangible indicated a risk of absconding or tampering with evidence. Accordingly, the Court allowed the bail petition and ordered the petitioner's release on furnishing bail/surety bonds to the satisfaction of the concerned CJM/Duty Magistrate.
