These are a batch of writ petitions filed before the Andhra Pradesh High Court at Amaravati by ex-corporators, ex-councillors, and other affected persons challenging the State of Andhra Pradesh's initiation of ward delimitation processes for various municipal corporations and Nagara Panchayats. The petitioners contend that the delimitation proceedings, initiated through G.O.Ms.No.64 dated 24.03.2026 and related circulars and preliminary notifications, are illegal and arbitrary as they were undertaken during an ongoing Census-2027 operation, in violation of the Census Act, 1948, Census Rules 1990, relevant constitutional provisions (Articles 14, 19, 21, 243R, 245, 246, 254, 256, 257), and applicable municipal delimitation rules. Some petitioners additionally allege that their objections to the increase in ward strength were not considered and were not forwarded to the competent authority as required by the applicable rules. The petitioners sought writs of mandamus to set aside the impugned notifications and directions to follow the prescribed statutory procedure, along with interim stays of further proceedings.
