The Christian Joint Action Committee filed a habeas corpus writ petition before the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Amaravati, challenging the detention of Batchalakuri Joseph @ Ravan, who ran a YouTube channel called 'PRASHNA' and was arrested on 04.07.2026 near Vempadu Toll Plaza, Anakapalli, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The petitioners contended that the 24-hour production limit under Article 22(2) was violated, that written grounds of arrest were not furnished, and that the Gannavaram Police Station lacked territorial jurisdiction to register the FIR and seek remand. The court held that travel time is excludable from the 24-hour computation under Article 22(2) for every arrested person, that digital content accessible from Gannavaram satisfied territorial jurisdiction at the investigation stage, and that the remand order was not passed mechanically. The court further held that habeas corpus is maintainable against a remand order only where the detention is absolutely illegal, lacks jurisdiction, or the remand was passed mechanically, and found none of those conditions satisfied here. The writ petition was accordingly dismissed, the remand order being found legally valid.
