The wife, Sangeeta, filed an FIR in 2020 alleging dowry harassment, assault, and criminal intimidation against her husband and his family members (nanad, nandoi, mother-in-law, and father-in-law) under Sections 498A, 323, 504, 506 IPC and Sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The applicants filed a petition under Section 482 CrPC before the Allahabad High Court seeking quashing of the chargesheet and summoning order. The court noted that applicants 2-4 (husband's relatives) faced only general and omnibus allegations with no specific role attributed to them, which, per Apex Court precedents, amounts to over-implication in matrimonial disputes. Additionally, the marriage was declared void by the Family Court, Jalaun on 15.12.2025, and applicant no. 5 (father-in-law) had died, leading to dismissal of the petition qua him. On the basis of the omnibus nature of allegations against the relatives, the court found merit in quashing the proceedings against applicants 2-4.
